LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
Lying in a shallow depression at the base of the rift valley and backed
by the red and brown cliffs of the escarpment, this serene park is dominated
by the lake and the beautiful cool, lush and mature ground water forest,
home to blue and vervet monkeys, baoboons, bush buck and plenty of birds
and butterflies.
When the thick vegetation
of the forest eventually merges into flat-topped acacia woodland, elephant,
giraffe, impala, buffalo and zebra can easily be spotted. Also the lions
can be seen, sometimes stretching out in the branches of the acacia, a
habit commonly seen in Manyara.
