ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK
Located only 45 kilometres from Arusha, this relatively small park (137
square kilometers) includes a wide range of habitats, from alkaline crater
lakes and swamps to the highlands montane forests and the summit of Mt.
Meru, the fourth highest mountain of Africa. Mammals include buffalo,
elephant, giraffe, hippopotamus, Zebra, Leopard, waterbuck, reedbuck and
almost 400 species of birds. It is famous for the beautiful black and
white colobus monkey which springs from branch to branch in the tall rain
forest trees and the shy duiker which skulks below. The park is ideal
for a day game drive or a pleasant few hours walk. Those who plan to tackle
Mount Meru, however must consider three full days.
